Come and learn the Joining Bottles technique, a wood-joining technique using plastic bottles. By heat, a simple plastic bottle is transformed into a bonding material that can be used to repair and build furniture, luminaires and other structures.
The technique is a playful and alternative approach to conventional wood joinery, exploring an ingenious use of plastic bottles.
Working with various wood pieces, you will gain a hands-on understanding of the technique.
The workshop is led by Micaella Pedros, designer and maker based in East London. Her design work nurtures a playful and experimental approach through which she conceives objects, furniture and artefacts.
Her creations are driven by sustainability, local resources, empowerment and creativity, and formed at the intersection of product design, engineering and fine art, within which the concepts of waste, natural forces, local cultures and unnoticed potentials are a great source of inspiration.
Micaella Pedros holds a Master’s Degree in Design Product from the Royal College of Art (2016) and two Industrial & Product Design Degrees from ENSAAMA (Paris, France - DSAA 2014 & BTS 2012). After her practice’s first years at Blackhorse Workshop, travels, self-discovery and a full-time position as a design consultant in social innovation, she found her way back to the workshop and her projects in 2020, while developing skills on the side such as carpentry, woodturning, welding and cabinet making.
The workshop costs £10 per person. Materials will be provided.
You will be able to take your experimentations with you. You can sign up to the event on eventbrite.
