Laburnum Boat Club

Laburnum Boat Club is a long-standing charity that supports vulnerable young people in Hackney by offering out-of-school activities such as boating and holiday programs.

 

Laburnum recognised that in these young people there was an opportunity to embed eco-friendly habits that could be shared across families and communities. With NLCF funding Laburnum was able to run waste reduction workshops, teaching practical skills like clothing upcycling and waste-free cooking.

 

The Club ran 30 workshops for over 50 young people, who became much more aware of the consequences of waste and picked up some great eco-friendly behaviours around food and clothing. The Club also noted a great culture change among their staff, who are more equipped to make sure Laburnum is always sustainable in its day-to-day activities.
