Response

Response date

Further to our email acknowledging your Environmental Information Regulations request (reference 2023-219), our response is as follows.

You requested information on the waste types collected at our Reuse and Recycling Centres (RRCs).

Through our contractors, North London Waste Authority (NLWA) runs RRCs at the following locations:

  • Summers Lane, North Finchley
  • Regis Road, Kentish Town
  • Western Road, Haringey
  • Hornsey Street, Islington
  • Kings Road, Waltham Forest
  • Gateway Road, Leyton
  • South Access Road, Walthamstow

These sites are run by NLWA’s wholly owned company, LondonEnergy Ltd, except for Gateway Road, which is run by Bywaters.

NLWA also disposes of waste for the London Borough of Enfield, but do not run their RRC at Barrowell Green in Winchmore Hill. The Barrowell Green site is therefore out of scope for your request.

Attached are three spreadsheets containing data on the waste collected at the RRCs we run:

  • An export from our Waste Data Management System (WDMS), which includes tonnages from all the RRCs run by LondonEnergy Ltd
  • A spreadsheet showing data from Bywaters about waste collected at the Gateway Road RRC
  • A spreadsheet showing data on WEEE collected by ERP, our WEEE services provider

The way we categorise our tonnage data does not align to the categories included in your request, but all your categories are covered.

The spreadsheet containing data from ERP uses several abbreviations which may need explanation. These are listed below:

  • LDA: Large Domestic Appliances
  • COLD: fridges and freezers
  • CRT: Cathode Ray Tubes – this abbreviation is used to refer to televisions
  • SDA: Small Domestic Appliances

We are in the process of upgrading our WDMS, as set out in this recent report to our Members, and it will soon include consolidated data from Bywaters and ERP in addition to data from LondonEnergy Ltd.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you may ask for an internal review, which should be submitted within two months of when you received our response to either informationrequests@nlwa.gov.uk or enquiry form quoting the above reference.

If you are not content with the outcome of the review, you may complain to the Information Commissioner, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF, or via their online portal. The Information Commissioner will not usually accept complaints before a review has been completed.
