Request
i understand that through the government's distributor takeback scheme (dts), certain manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment (eee) are required to pay a fee to cover their waste management obligations. according to the government website, this money goes towards supporting the recycling centres run by local authorities. i understand that the north london waste authority is responsible for managing and recycling waste for the boroughs of barnet, enfield, haringey, waltham forest, camden, hackney and islington. i would be grateful if you could answer the following questions: how much money did the north london waste authority receive under the dts from 2017-2021? how was this money used by the north london waste authority in its recycling centre? (please provide a breakdown of how funds were al located to each type of electronic waste)
Response
Further to my earlier email in relation to your EIR request 2022-171, the Authority does not receive funding from the Distributor Takeback Scheme. The Authority does, however, receive the following services in kind through the appointed contractor:
- regular collection of WEEE items from our network of RRCs
- regular collection of on-street WEEE recycling banks
- a kerbside collection service, provided by Clearabee to residents in five out of seven boroughs, for which the Authority contributes £80,000 and which is in turn recovered from the participating boroughs.
