The identification codes show which type of material was used to make a product. That means it doesn’t necessarily indicate a product’s recyclability. To check if something is recyclable, either search for the individual item on our A-Z function (opens in a new window), or check on our recycling page (opens in a new window).

The 'paper' code refers to all types of paper you might commonly see around you. For instance, books, newspapers, leaflets, or even some straw-like packaging materials. It can go into your recycling bin at home or you can take it to some of north London's reuse and recycling centres (see below).
