Grass roots organisations running waste prevention projects are invited to apply for their share of grants totalling £150,000 thanks to the North London Community Fund.
Now in its eighth year, the 2025/26 fund will allocate grants of up to £15,000 to non-profit groups developing new ideas or extending the reach and impact of existing projects. It is open to a diverse range of approaches which promote community cohesion, drive sustainability education and ultimately aim to reduce household waste across the boroughs of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest.
Last year, North London Waste Authority (NLWA) split the fund into two stages for the first time, with a separate pot of £200,000 made available for a maximum of two larger projects delivering their work over a two-year period. An announcement on the successful recipients is due shortly.
Councillor Clyde Loakes MBE, Chair of NLWA, said: “Since launching in 2017, the North London Community Fund has awarded more than £620,000 in grants to 59 different projects doing incredible work on the ground. We know that we must work together to deliver lasting change, which is why we have developed this new tiered approach and committed a total of £250,000 every year to projects of all sizes.
“If you run a community group which shares our passion for preserving resources for future generations, supporting the circular economy and tackling the climate emergency – we want to hear from you!
“Whether you are focused on electronics, food, furniture or textiles - working collaboratively means we can gain a deeper understanding of the waste challenges in our seven boroughs and beyond, and reach our diverse communities to create a more environmentally conscious north London.”
The deadline for submitting applications is 5pm on Wednesday 18 December 2024, with two Q&A webinars due to take place this month.
