After going through a rigorous application and assessment process, North London Waste Authority is proud to have received an industry-recognised seal of approval for our new primary schools education programme.
NLWA was awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge, an industry-recognised mark of quality backed by the Department of Education. It’s an independently assessed benchmark that helps schools choose education programmes they know are engaging, informative, and designed for the best learning outcomes.
The badge recognises the excellent standard of learning NLWA provides for students through our primary schools education programme. At the recently opened state-of-the-art EcoPark House in Edmonton students take part in interactive education sessions where they learn about waste management, waste reduction and environmental planning. They also get a tour of the new reuse and recycling centre and resource recovery facility at the Edmonton EcoPark. The current redevelopment of the EcoPark, including building a new energy-from-waste facility, is the most significant public sector investment in waste facilities London has seen for a generation. The sessions are the first outside-the-classroom education programme in London to earn an LOtC Quality Badge.
NLWA Chair Councillor Clyde Loakes said: “The Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, although a bit of a mouthful, is a fantastic accolade and well-deserved recognition of the thought that went into making sure our sessions deliver great educational outcomes for students.
“We’re the first trip provider in London and only the fourth in the country to be awarded this badge of honour, which shows the exceptionally high standard of our education programme. This is just one of the many ways we are able to use EcoPark house as a valuable community space with real social value for local residents of all ages!”
School visits at EcoPark House opened for bookings in January and are already proving a great success, with six sessions delivered so far. Schools can book a free education session online at NLWA’s education hub.
