At North London Waste Authority, we are committed to supporting non-profit-making organisations focused on tackling waste at the community level. We believe working with communities is key to enacting our objective to prevent waste and preserve resources for future generations.
North London Community Fund
Our flagship waste prevention initiative, the North London Community Fund (NLCF), was established in 2017 to enhance the efforts of grassroots local groups addressing waste challenges across our boroughs.
Since its launch, we have awarded funding to 59 organisations dedicated to a wide range of waste prevention activities. These include: providing recycling and reuse education, setting up repair cafes, upcycling and textiles events, sustainability fairs and food waste workshops.

Current recipients

Abbey Community Centre
Abbey Community Centre, based in Camden, have been awarded funding to put on recycle art classes for residents. They are focusing on reducing waste whilst also creating a safe, community space for residents to get creative.
Age UK Enfield
Age Uk Enfield were awarded funding for their ‘Men in Sheds’ project. This Enfield project aims to tackle social isolation in men over 50 whilst teaching them practical woodworking skills using recycled materials.
Arachne Greek Cypriot Women's Group
Arachne Greek Cypriot Women’s Group, working in Islington, have received funding for their ‘Repair, Recycle, Repurpose Your Clothes’ programme. Through an 8-week class they are aiming to upskill 30 women in sewing to prevent unnecessary textile waste.
Bread N Butter
Working in Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, Bread N Butter are putting on workshops for residents to teach them about food waste and how to prevent it in their homes.
Clapton Common Boys Club
Clapton Common Boys Club are working with residents of Hackney and Haringey to engage young people in waste prevention activities. The ‘Love the Planet’ programme has been delivering educational activities to a broad audience, covering topics like pollution, saving resources and recycling.
Community Focus Inclusive Arts
Working in Barnet, Community Focus Inclusive Arts is working with young people to upcycle their clothes. They will hold upcycling sessions and create art pieces including a catwalk of their creations and a framed piece to be used in their centre.
Forest Recycling Project
Based in Waltham Forest, the Forest Recycling Project have created a community tool library open to residents. Members can borrow tools for their homes, gardens and even for bike and car maintenance.
Kilburn Repair Club
Kilburn Repair Club is based in Camden and aims to repair residents' broken electricals to prevent waste. They also aim to train volunteers in the necessary skills to repair items themselves thus circulating the necessary skills to divert electricals from waste.
Lifeafterhummus
Working with Camden residents, Lifeafterhummus is a Community Benefit society focusing on food waste. The funding will be used to renovate their current space so they can hold workshops on using leftovers, cooking with less for less and preventing food waste.
London Cycling Club
London Cycling Club are running a bike recycling programme in Enfield and Haringey. They are saving bikes from waste by repairing them and then providing them at low cost to residents who would benefit from them.
Markets N22- Bowes and Bounds Repair Café
Bowes and Bounds repair café is working in the borough of Haringey to provide accessible workshops to residents to prevent electrical waste. The scheme is providing free repairs to residents and teaching them the skills to repair items themselves.
Our Home Our Planet- Eco Show and Tell
Our Home Our Planet is putting on a series of sustainability fairs, Eco Show and Tell, in Barnet. They are raising awareness for climate issues through waste reduction initiatives.
St Andrew's Church
Based in Islington, St Andrew’s Church are holding weekly clothes swaps to raise awareness of textile waste and encourage residents to swap instead of buy new.
The Mill- Forest Fixers
Forest Fixers run repair clubs and cafes for Waltham Forest residents. They teach residents the skills on how to repair items themselves and welcome people to bring their broken items along to get repaired too.
What other support do we offer?
As well as the NLCF, we offer non-profit-making organisations in north London the opportunity to receive credits for diverting waste from landfill, and access to volunteer time and a resource bank through RE-Power Communities.
